Woolson House was financed by the generous contribution of Clare A. Benedict in honor of her aunt, Constance Fennimore Woolson (1840-1894), an accomplished American novelist and short-story writer who wintered in Florida in the late 1800s. Designed by Kiehnel and Elliot, Woolson House was built in 1938. The 1,152-square-foot structure originally included a library of books, manuscripts, magazines, and memorabilia of Miss Woolson. The building has traditionally been used by the English department. |
