Mary Jean Mitchell Plaza |
Even
before the construction of the new plaza, the location had traditionally
been a popular place of gathering for the Rollins community because of its
central location and close proximity to the tennis courts, the volleyball
field, and the residence halls. The Mary Jean Plaza was rendered possible
by the donation of Peter Green, husband of the late Mrs. Green. The
dedication ceremony occurred on October 21, 1994. The plaza provides
students, faculty, and staff with a new venue for studying, eating, and
relaxing in open air. The patio contains tables with umbrellas and a stage
for student gatherings and special events. Landscape architects Scott
Waldroff and Garth Schweizer of the Schweizer-Waldroff Design Groups
designed the plaza, while the general contractor Aagaard-Juergensen, Inc.,
under the supervision of Walter Jurgensen and Chuck Kent completed the
construction. |
