Johnson Center

The Johnson Center was the gift of Thomas Phillips Johnson (’34 ’82H) in memory of his mother, Grace Phillips Johnson, and his brother, George W. Johnson II (’61H). A seasonal resident of Winter Park for over forty years, Mrs. Johnson became a community leader and one of Central Florida’s greatest benefactors. Her contributions extended to Rollins College as well, where she was a major benefactor of Orlando Hall and a charter member of the College’s “Book-a-Year” program. George W. Johnson II was a respected attorney and business leader in the Central Florida area for over fifty years. He was also secretary for the College’s Board of Trustees between 1953 and 1978. The Johnson Center was constructed in 1988 and spans an approximately 12,000 square feet. The facilities were designed to provide students a hands-on approach to psychology, one of Rollins’ most popular majors. Complete with offices, classrooms, research labs, and equipments rooms, the Center is designed to give Rollins psychology majors an advantage in graduate programs. Administrative affairs for the center is carried out in the centralized work space and technology area on the first floor of the building, while research is conducted on the second floor in a number of rooms including an electronic room with polygraph equipment, and observational laboratory classrooms. The Johnson Center was dedicated on October 14, 1988.
