Holt Hall

Holt Hall was named after the former Rollins president Hamilton Holt. Built in 1966,  it was originally called the Independent Men’s dormitory. However a year later, when the hall became co-ed, question was raised as to whether women would like to live in a building called Independent Men’s dorm. To solve the dilemma, President Hugh McKean (’30 ’72H) decided in June 1967 to rename the facility Holt Hall. It has been a residence hall since.

The style of Holt Hall is consistent with the Spanish-Mediterranean style of the rest of the buildings on campus. The architectural firm of Rogers, Lovelock and Fritz of Winter Park designed the building. The hall has the signature red-tiled roof of the campus and archways in front of the entrance. The original architectural design allows the future addition of extra wings if the College so pleased, but that idea was never materialized. Inside the hall, a lounge area in the basement has been used as a gathering place for small parties thrown by campus student organizations. Throughout the years, Holt Hall has been a quiet residence consisting of mostly single rooms with only 16 rooms that are doubles.
