At an approximate cost of $52,000, Gale Hall was constructed in 1936 on the site of the previous tennis courts. This Mediterranean-style residence hall was built in memory of Reverend Sullivan French Gale (1842-1909), founder and charter trustee of Rollins College, organizer and superintendent of the Congregational Home Missionary Society in Florida, and editor of the Florida Historical Society Quarterly. Richard Kiehnel deigned the 2,918-square-foot residence hall for men. At a capacity of seventeen occupants, Gale Hall has housed the X-Club (1939-1943), Phi Delta Theta (1936-1939), Delta Chi, and Alpha Phi Lambda fraternities. The building was slightly renovated in 1970. It is again the home of the X-Club. |
